Put your trauma where it belongs: In the past
Trauma shrinks your world down until it’s barely recognizable. You’re no longer interested in important activities, your relationships are suffering, you might have a hard time going out in public or sleeping.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy—EMDR—is an evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and subclinical posttraumatic stress symptoms, like hypervigilance, irritability, nightmares, and avoidance of triggering situations/places/people. It can also change your experience of chronic pain.
EMDR is unique from other research-supported PTSD treatments like prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) in that it is a somatic approach. This means that we not only change how you think about your trauma but we can also change how your body responds to triggers and help calm intense emotions.
EMDR Intensives
Short on time? An EMDR intensive might be a good fit for you. EMDR intensives are concentrated therapy sessions that last 5-6 hours rather than the standard hour-long appointment you might be used to. Because EMDR does not require homework or between-session practice, we can make big changes in just a few hours. So you can get back to life much sooner!
Informed Consent for EMDR Intensives
Getting your consent for treatment is an important part of therapy. Part of my job is to thoroughly describe the treatment process and answer any of your questions. Even after signing the Informed Consent form, consent will be an ongoing process throughout our time together.
Please read my Informed Consent form. Intensive EMDR is not like other therapy, so you might consider it like an FAQ section. On the form, I describe, in detailed and (hopefully) clear language, what you can expect from treatment and what I expect of you.
